| Position the patient correctly |
| Prepare the skin as for surgical procedure |
| Insert needle between second and third or between third and fourth lumbar vertebrae |
| Remove the stiletto when the needle is entered the sub arachnoid space |
| Attach the three way adapter with the manometer filled with normal saline to the needle |
| The patient is asked to relax as much as possible |
| About 2 to 3 lm of CSF is allowed to drip into each of 3 sterile test tubes and then withdraw the needle |
| Seal the puncture wound |
