LUMBAR PUNCTURE




  1.  
Position the patient correctly

  1.  
Prepare the skin as for surgical procedure 

  1.  
Insert needle between second and third or between third and fourth  lumbar vertebrae

  1.  
Remove the stiletto when the needle is entered the sub arachnoid space
  1.  
Attach the three way adapter with the manometer filled with normal saline to the needle

  1.  
The patient is asked to relax as much as possible

  1.  
About 2  to 3 lm of CSF is allowed to drip into each of 3 sterile test tubes and then withdraw the needle

  1.  
Seal the puncture wound
